Over 200 locals, including women, children and elderly, have been infected with the acute viral infection. Man Singh Saud, 55, breathed his last on Tuesday evening while Khadka Bahadur Saud, 70, died on Monday from the infection, according to Tej Bahadur Khadka, a local teacher. Both deceased were from the same family. The outbreak has spread to 58 households of Talagaun in Laggam VDC-5.

"Though we have informed the District Health Office, the health workers have not reached here yet," informed Khadka. It takes about five hours on foot to reach Baspani Health Post, the nearest health care facility. "The disease has already spread among many locals. Lack of timely treatment could lead to more deaths," he added.

Meanwhile, District Public Health Office has informed that it was sending health workers to the affected areas. "As we do not have proper information about the outbreak, we have asked the health workers at Baspani Health Post to go to the village with medicines and also establish the cause of the viral infection," a worker at the office said.
