UN stresses entrepreneurship, inclusive growth for Nepal’s long-term development

KATHMANDU, May 20: The United Nations has underscored the need to promote entrepreneurship and inclusive development as key drivers of Nepal’s long-term socioeconomic growth, while highlighting the importance of stronger collaboration between international and national stakeholders.



United Nations Resident Coordinator to Nepal Lila Pieters Yahia made the remarks during a meeting with Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, president of the International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), at the UN House on Monday, reads a statement issued by IRGDD.


During the meeting, Yahia said supporting innovation, youth empowerment and entrepreneurial initiatives would be crucial to sustaining Nepal’s development trajectory.

The discussion also focused on enhancing multilateral cooperation and aligning international partnerships with Nepal’s long-term development priorities.


IRGDD President Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to fostering dialogue, partnerships and collaborative initiatives to support Nepal’s development goals and international engagement.


Yahia appreciated IRGDD’s efforts in promoting diplomatic dialogue, policy engagement and global partnerships, and acknowledged its role in connecting diplomats, policymakers, academia and emerging leaders.


Dhakal also extended her best wishes to Yahia for a successful tenure in Nepal.


On the occasion, Dhakal presented a ceremonial cup to Yahia, recognising her as an honorary member of the Ambassadors Club, and handed over the latest edition of The Diplomat Nepal marking its first anniversary.


Both sides expressed commitment to continued cooperation for sustainable development and inclusive progress in Nepal, according to the press release issued by IRGDD.
