KATHMANDU, July 4: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested CPN UML lawmaker Naradmuni Rana from Kathmandu on Monday morning.

A CIB squad arrested Constituent Assembly lawmaker in connection with abuse of diplomatic passport, confirmed CIB chief DIG Rajendra Singh Bhandari.[break]

Rana is elected to the CA under the proportional representation system from Kailali.

It has been reported that Nepal Police and the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu have already substantiated the fact that a person, whom Rana could have sold his passport to, reached Australia on December 11, 2010 and is still living there.

He is the third CA member to be arrested, after the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the constitutional anti-graft body, has initiated a probe into the lawmakers’ possible involvement in misusing the diplomatic passport.

In April, the CIB had arrested two lawmakers Gayatri Sah of Nepali Janata Dal and Bishwonath Prasad Yadav of Madhesi People’s Rights Forum for their alleged involvement in selling their red passports.

Both of them have currently been facing charges filed by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the constitutional anti-graft body, at the Special Court.
