KATHMANDU, Dec 15: The nomination process is currently underway at the closed session of the 11th General Convention of the CPN-UML at Bhrikutimandap.
Party chair KP Sharma Oli has registered his candidacy for the post of chairperson. Senior leader Ishwar Pokhrel, another aspirant for the chair, is also in line to file his nomination, though Oli registered his candidacy earlier.
Oli has formed his panel largely composed of leaders considered close to him. From his panel, Shankar Pokhrel has been repeated as general secretary.

For the post of vice-chairperson, Guru Baral, Pradeep Gyawali, and Prithvi Subba Gurung have been included as new entrants, while Ram Bahadur Thapa and Bishnu Paudel have been retained.
Bishnu Rimal continues as deputy general secretary, joined by Raghubir Mahaseth and Bhanubhakta Dhakal.
For the post of secretary, Oli’s panel includes Mahesh Basnet, Sherdhan Rai, Hikmat Kumar Karki, and Dr Rajan Bhattarai.
Additionally, Lekharaj Bhatt, Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Padma Kumari Aryal, Khagaraj Adhikari, and Yam Lal Kandel have also registered their nominations from Oli’s panel.
The leadership contest is unfolding amid parallel preparations by rival panels, as the party moves toward electing its new leadership through the ongoing convention.
