Maoist leaders, including Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and DPM Narayankaji Shrestha tried to convince the civil society members to stand in favor of CA reinstatement during an interaction held in Kathmandu. [break]
“We floated various proposals before the opposition parties but they remained rigid on their demand for PM´s resignation. We have now come up with the proposal of CA revival because the opposition parties have rejected other options,” senior civil society member Padmaratna Tuladhar quoted Maoists leaders as saying.
According to Tuladhar, some of the civil society members suggested to the leaders to revive the CA only to carry out the legislative functions and not to draft the new constitution.
“Those making the suggestion were of the view that such a move would help form the government as any leader garnering the simple majority can be elected prime minister,” said Tuladhar.
CK Lal, Kishor Nepal, Jhalak Subedi, Shyam Shrestha, Sundar Mani Dixit and Khagendra Sangraula, among other civil society activists, had participated in the interaction.
