Speaking at a regular weekly meet the press at party headquarters, Paris Danda, this afternoon, UCPN (Maoist) Spokesperson Agni Sapkota said the present political crisis is likely to continue to opposition parties´ power-hungry nature and the same has pushed the formation of a national unity government away.
"The country could not get an outlet as the Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) have only focused on government instead of ending the deadlock. Possibility of holding fresh elections by mid-May is gradually ending due to their stubborn and unnecessary stances," the UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson added.
Sapkota said, "Now, we have to move ahead by reinstating the dissolved Constituent Assembly (CA). Our party has drawn this conclusion."
Recalling the party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda´s statement that chances of CA elections by mid-May were slim and NC and UML were responsible for deferring CA elections, the Maoist spokesperson said the UCPN (Maoist) floated a proposal for forming a new government under the leadership of an apolitical leader to give a way out to the country.
He said the UCPN (Maoist) concluded not to quit the government after the opposition parties put forth a condition for the exit of the government in non-political way.
"The UCPN (Maoist) is open over the issue of government leadership if a package deal was made."
Spokesperson Sapkota said reviving the CA was the best alternative as the opposition parties were not ready to move ahead by taking ownership of the agreed issues by the dissolved CA and forging consensus in new elections and other issues.
He also added chances of political consensus are slim during the fresh deadline given by the President to the parties for the formation of a national unity government.
