KATHMANDU, April 17: Kusang Lama, a truck driver arrested with foreign currency equivalent to Rs 250 million, has been sent to jail for trial. The Kathmandu District Court issued the remand order through Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel.
Lama, a resident of Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality-1 in Sindhupalchok, was arrested on the night of March 17 from Tokha, Kathmandu. He was found transporting the money, euros and US dollars, concealed in a false bottom behind the driver's seat of a truck numbered (Na 7 Kha 1652).

Following investigation, the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) identified the owner of the money as Narayan Paudel, a resident of Tokha Municipality-10 and originally from Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality-4 in Sindhupalchok. Paudel is absconding, and an arrest warrant has been issued against him.
According to DRI Director General Chandri Prasad Ghimire, the department identified Paudel as the provider of the funds through intelligence and technical analysis. The investigation traced suspicious transactions in Lama’s bank account and his last communication with Paudel using Call Detail Record (CDR) analysis. Authorities also examined CCTV footage and digital evidence.
Searches were conducted at Paudel’s residence, business premises, and warehouses, during which various items were recovered. The seized truck was traced to several locations, including garages and parking lots.
The case is currently under further investigation.
