Traders from Chhosera, Lo Manthang, Tsarang, Surakha, Dhami and Chhunhup areas of Upper Mustang bought the sheep and mountain goats to sell them in Myagdi, Baglung, Parbat and Pokhara.
“Around 18,000 heads of sheep and mountain goats have already entered Upper Mustang. Traders paid an average of Rs 10,000-11,000 per head,” added Khakural.
Minbar Gurung of Chhoser in Upper Mustang said the traders are planning to sell Tibetan sheep and mountain goats after mixing them with local flocks during Dashain and Tihar.
Local traders generally buy sheep and mountain goats for Dashain from this fair as Chinese officials restrict movement of goods and traders other times of the year.
“Chinese security personnel recently arrested 11 Nepali traders. They were released only after they paid fine,” said Hari Bahadur KC, headmaster of Deep Jyoti Secondary School in Chhoser.
