Three die in separate drowning incidents

Three people, including two girls, died in separate drowning incidents in Surkhet and Dailekh districts on Saturday.

BIRENDRANAGAR, June 21: Three people, including two girls, died in separate drowning incidents in Surkhet and Dailekh districts on Saturday.



The two girls drowned while swimming in Tuni Khola at Birendranagar Municipality-10 in Surkhet. The deceased have been identified as local residents Samjhana Thapa, estimated to be 14–15 years old, and Kalpana Rawat, estimated to be 12–13 years old.

According to police, the two girls drowned while swimming in the stream on Saturday evening. With the assistance of police personnel and local residents, they were rescued and rushed to Karnali Province Hospital in Kalagaun for treatment.


However, both were unconscious at the time of rescue and were declared dead by doctors upon arrival at the hospital.


Following the incident, a police team led by Police Inspector Shyam Prakash Yadav has been deployed from the District Police Office, Surkhet, for further investigation, according to Superintendent of Police Thakur Prasad Pokharel, chief of the district police office.


In a separate incident, 18-year-old Ramesh Pun of Gurans Rural Municipality in Dailekh also died after drowning in Dahatal on Saturday.
