KATHMANDU, July 24: An independent auditor´s report into financial management of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) by its disgraced President Mohammad Bin Hammam has revealed that All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa had received $ 4,366 to purchase air tickets for his wife and son.

Earlier, the Associated Press (AP) quoting the auditor´s report had said AFC staffer Gaurav, the elder son of AFC Vice President Ganesh Thapa, had received two payments totaling $ 100,000 from Hammam.[break]

The auditor´s report states that Ganesh received $ 4,366 on January 31, 2011 to purchase air tickets. The claims from attached air tickets states that the purchase was in relation to the Asian Cup 2011 held in Doha.

According to mideastsoccer.blogspot.com, the report states that Hammam doled out some $700,000 to family and friends including air tickets for Thapa´s wife and son as well as the $100,000 transferred to Gaurav´s account.

Ganesh Thapa has been saying that his elder son had taken personal loan from Hammam in 2009 and has already paid it back.

"The report by PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC) of disgraced former FIFA vice president Hammam, who was last week suspended for 30 days as head of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as a result of the report, suggests cases of money laundering, tax invasion, bribery and busting of US sanctions against Iran and North Korea," writes football writer James M Dorsey in his blog.

When contacted by Republica on Tuesday evening, Thapa said he would not comment on the issue and asked to better contact the AFC headquarters.
