KATHMANDU, Dec 21: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Gagan Thapa has urged the government to form a permanent type of high-level disaster management authority to deal with any natural disasters in Nepal. Speaking at a 'National Reconstruction Workshop' organized by National Youth Alliance for Reconstruction (NYAR) in the capital on Monday, Thapa, who is also the chairman of parliamentary committee on agriculture and water resources, said that such high-level authority can work toward prevention of disasters in the future.

Also speaking at the workshop, youths from the earthquake affected districts said that the government has delayed in distributing the relief supports to the earthquake survivors. "The government has decided to distribute Rs 10,000 to the victims of the earthquake immediately after the disaster. However, many of the families in the district are yet to receive the cash relief," said Purshottam Shrestha, a victim of earthquake from Nuwakot.Likewise, youth activists have also taken exception over the government delay in forming high-level reconstruction authority. "It is very unfortunate that the political parties are bickering over the formation of reconstruction authority even after eight months of the earthquake. They are adding insult to the injury to the earthquake victims,"said NYAR Coordinator Narendra Khatiwada.
