The killer tusker had killed two locals, Saruj Chowdhary and Sudarshan Chowdhary, at Jaguwa of Sapahi VDC-7 on Thursday night, bringing the total death toll from the attack to four in the past four days. [break]
The team led by Chief District Officer (CDO) Thaman Singh Thapa was formed after returning from the site of Thursday.
“A team of specialist has been formed to investigate and capture the wild tusker and they have begun their daunting task from Friday,” said Thapa.
According to Rakesh Karna, Parsa District Forest Officer, all the specialists in the search team were called from Chitwan National Park (CNP) and Parsa Wildlife Reserve (PWR).
The six member team comprises elephant specialist of CNP Dr Hari Prasad Badtaula, veterinary doctor Santa Chhetri, forest expert Bishnu Lama, animal expert Kiran Rijal and two forest officers.
“During the search, the team had seen the wild tusker on Friday evening but it vanished into the forest before they could make any move,” said Karna.
The wild tusker has found entering the nearby human settlements for the last two months. “Wild tusker has been threatening nearby villager for two months and we had informed the forest officer´s ranger post about the situation,” a local Laxmi Dhatt Panta.
However, it is unclear if all the four deaths were caused by the same elephant.
