Teachers’ Association calls meeting following talks with govt

According to the NTA, the meeting will discuss contemporary issues related to education and teachers’ concerns.

KATHMANDU, April 19: The Nepal Teachers’ Association (NTA) has called a meeting for 3:15 pm today following recent talks with the government representatives. The meeting is scheduled to take place at Ratna Rajya Secondary School in Baneshwor.


According to the NTA, the meeting will discuss contemporary issues related to education and teachers’ concerns. The announcement comes a day after a discussion was held at Baluwatar between Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and representatives of the Nepal Teachers’ Association regarding the ongoing teachers’ protests and potential resolutions.

Since April 2, public school teachers across the country have been staging protests in Kathmandu, demanding the immediate passage of the School Education Bill, 2081 BS. In response, Prime Minister Oli directed Deputy Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Education Minister Bidya Bhattarai to hold further discussions and work towards addressing the legitimate demands of the teachers onApril 7.


A cabinet meeting held on April 14 decided to call a parliamentary session on April 24 to pass the proposed bill. The government has expressed sensitivity toward the teachers’ demands and has continued dialogue, requesting teachers to return to classrooms in light of ongoing student enrollment, SEE answer sheet evaluation, and upcoming Grade 12 examinations.


NTA officials present during the discussion at Baluwatar included Chairperson Laxmikishor Subedi, Vice-Chairperson Nanumaya Parajuli, General Secretary Tul Bahadur Thapa, and Deputy General Secretary Madanraj Joshi.
