Shah had also competed in the Beijing Olympics as well as in the three consecutive FINA World Swimming Championships. [break]Shah who had arrived in London a month before the Olympics for special training had picked shoulder injury during training but has recovered since. The injury affected his training for a few days.
"Shah had picked a minor injury but he is in normal condition now. Our players are very much excited," Nepal´s chef de mission Ganga Bahadur Thapa said to the Republica, adding, "Shreya Dhital bettered her national record and her feat will provide inspiration to Shah as well. Though he has minor pain we are optimistic that he shall put a good show."
Chitra Bahadur Gurung holds the national record in the event with a timing of 26.39 seconds set during 2003 in Kathmandu. Shah´s personal best is 27.04 seconds set during Pramod Memorial Cup earlier this year.
Cielo Cesar of Brazil holds both world record and Olympics record. Ceser had clocked 20.91 seconds for world record at Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2009 and Olympics record of 21.30 second in Beijing Olympics four years earlier.
Shah got qualified for the London Olympics on the basis of his performance at 14th FINA World Championship held in Shanghai, China last year.
Shah, excited after getting the opportunity to carry the national flag during the march past in the opening ceremony, has said, "We are not in a position to win medals in Olympics. So I will try to better my personal record."
"I have set the target to complete the distance between 25.99 to 26.20 seconds," Shah said. "I have recovered well because of regular physiotherapy but I still have little pain. I will try to do my best."
