KATHMANDU, June 2: Survivor Nepal -- a non-profit organization -- Monday inaugurated its offices in Thapathali. The company's office was inaugurated by Babita Sedai, who was in Dharahara when it collapsed during the April-25 earthquake.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Survivor Nepal said it had partnered with a number of local organizations to help with distribution of aid -- mostly tarpaulin sheets, and medical and health care supplies -- in the remote areas most heavily affected by the quake."We have patiently and strategically dealt with every logistical, political and security hurdle to deliver our promise of ensuring end-to-end delivery of relief supplies," it said. Survivor Nepal further said it was being run by successful people from the development, health, and private sectors and brought together decades of experience.

In the first phase, the organization plans to invest in recovery of education and healthcare -- especially in prevention and control -- and in improving access to rehabilitation packages in Thokarpa and Kalika VDCs of Sindhupalchowk district.

The organization has partnered with a number of other relief groups to ensure that the basic needs -- shelter, food, health and hygiene -- can be bundled into a single distribution system so that the affected communities can get the most out of it.
