KAILALI, Oct 21: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has warned that action will be taken against traders who fail to pay farmers the government-determined support price for rice.
Responding to complaints from farmers that they were not receiving the official support price, Chief Minister Shah said he had instructed Kailali’s Chief District Officer (CDO) Krishna Prasad Lamsal to closely monitor the situation. “If traders are found not implementing the support price, they will face action,” Shah said.
Don’t throw that rice water away, use it like this!
He emphasized that farmers must receive the rate fixed by the government and directed authorities to ensure strict implementation of the price across the district.
Earlier, on September 27, CDO Lamsal had issued a public notice announcing the support price of rice—Rs 3,463.81 per quintal for coarse rice and Rs 3,628.33 per quintal for medium rice.
The CDO had also urged all municipalities to ensure purchase and sale of rice at the support price and implement the government’s decision. He said monitoring at all local levels in Kailali would be carried out immediately after the Chhath festival.
