Landless squatters claimed that the area where they have been residing for the past 30 years is now claimed by Adarsha Higher Secondary School. They said they have been living in the area since 1982.
With the school pushing to assert its claims over the land occupied by the squatters, they have formed a struggle committee to save their settlement. They have drawn the attention of District Administration Office, National Human Rights Commission, District Land Reforms Office and others.
They claimed that Manikapur VDC has provided 4 bigha, 2 kattha and 10 dhur lands to the Landless Squatters' Problem Resolution Commission and has distributed 8 to 10 dhur land to each squatter's family. The squatters have also claimed that the VDC has collecting household tax from the squatters.
"We have been threatened by the school to vacate the land. We have nowhere else to go," Shiva Lal Joshi, a squatter complained. People like Dalit, Muslim, Madhesi and disabled have been living in the area. There are 87 families living in the settlement.
