SPORTS BRIEFS: Sherpa wins Gokarna Monthly Medal

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Ang Tsering Sherpa scored 74 net to win the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club. His nearest rival was Tashi Ghale who scored 75 net, while Lie Jiu finished third on the count back after a tie at 76 net with Tashi Sherpa.



The tournament was played in stroke play format with full handicap. [break]



This is the eighth medal round of the year and four more medal rounds are to be played before the club champion is declared. Tendi Sherpa is leading the championship with 344 points.



Senior golfer KNS Thapa gave away prizes to the winners.





New leadership in Brigade Boys



KATHMANDU, Sept 18: The ad hoc committee of ´A´ division team Brigade Boys Club elected a new working committee under the leadership of former footballer Hem Thapa on Saturday. Kiran KC is the vice-president of the new committee. Progress Rai was elected as secretary, Karna Singh Limbu as joint-secretary and Romi Ale as treasurer.



The members of the newly elected body are Sameer Gurung, Dambar Gurung, Arbin Gurung, Akash Chhantyal, Milan Chandra Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Mahan Gurung and Lal Prasad Pun.





Marbles claim team championship



KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Marbles School claimed the team championship of the Second Inter-school Karate Championship securing five golds on Saturday. Asian Public School finished second while Shahid Shukra School secured the third position.



Diwan Shrestha of Marbles and Suma Chinal of Blue Sky were adjudged the best players in the boys´ and girls´ categories, respectively. Shrestha won gold in boys´ 20 kg category and Chinal in girls´ 30 kg.



The other winners in boys´ category were Sonam Lama of Blue Sky, Akash Pal of Asha Mandir, Nirajan Rawal of Cambridge, Dipendra Lama of Shahid Shukra, Krishna Tamang of Marbles, Amrit Dahal of Nandi, Raj Khatri of Arundeep and Ishwar Dahal of Asian Public.



The winners of girls´ events were Umashan Subba of Marbles, Jofin Lama of Asian Public, Salina Sthapit of Marbles, Suraksha Pal of Asha Mandir, and Sonam Lama and Subidha Gurung of Bal Udyan.





New Summit in QF



KATHMANDU, Sept 18: New Summit advanced into the quarterfinals of the Pathshala Cup First National Mini Basketball Tournament on Saturday.



New Summit thrashed Kasthamandap 28-3 in the first pre-quarterfinal match held at the court of hosts Pathshala Nepal in New Baneshwar. Deepak Bhattarai scored 16 points for the winners.





Guheshwari declared team champions



KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Guheshwari School were declared team champions on Saturday during the First Vision 2020 Inter-school Full Contact Karate. Sabina Shrestha, who won gold in girls´ 55 kg category, was adjudged the best player.



The other winners in girls´ category were Manisha Bharati of Sneha School (30 kg), Anjana Pariyar of Guheshwari (35 kg), Kopila Pariyar of Kanya Adarsha (45 kg).



Likewise, the winners of boys´ events were Rajan Maharjan of Chandani (30 kg), Sameer Kunwar of Ekanta Tara (35 kg), Ashish Gurung of Consolation (40 kg) and Prakash Magar of Guheshwari (50 kg).
