Sworaj KC and Abhilasha Bista emerged as the champions of boys´ U-9 and girls´ U-9 categories respectively in the 10th Jaykar Memorial Junior National Open Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.
KC, Bista win U-9 titles
KATHMANDU: In the finals played at Satdobato tennis court, KC fought hard against Ayushman Nanju for the win. KC edged past Nanju 10-7, 10-12, 10-8 while Bista defeated Nima Rokka 10-8, 10-6 in straight sets.[break]
In U-10 girls´ singles, Karuna Gauchan won the title. Gauchan beat Utshavi Joshi 6-2, 6-0.
Ivan Hoe Lissanevitch and Milan Rokka entered the final of the U-16 boys´ singles. In first semifinal, Lissanevitch overcame Brahmand Singh Moktan 6-2, 6-0 while Rokka edged past Suman Karki 6-1, 6-2.
In U-14 girls´ singles, Bibhuti Karki and Bijisha Shrestha will lock horns in the final. Karki registered 6-2, 7-6 victory over Mayanka Rana. In another semifinal, Shrestha gained a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Manjita Nyachhyo.
Abhay Gauchan, Abhishek Bastola, Sudarshan Sigdel and Ivan Hoe Lissanevitch fixed semifinal spots in U-14 boys´ singles. Gauchan beat Abhi Shrestha 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, Bastola crushed Sakchyam Karki 6-2, 6-0, Sigdel thrashed Aavash Malla 6-3, 6-1 and Lissanevitch crushed Pranav Kayastha 6-2, 6-1.
In U-12 boys´ single, Samrakshan Bhusan Bajracharya, Jeevan Gharti Magar, Sundar KC and Saksham Karki reached semifinals winning their respective matches. Bajracharya thumped Anjan Thing 8-1 while Gharti Magar beat Navin Joshi 8-2. Likewise, KC edged past Prashant Basnet 8-3 and Karki overcame Renjan Lama 8-4.
Xavier beats Bridge Water
KATHMANDU: Xavier International College registered a win in boys´ category on Wednesday in The Professional Gyan Carnival Inter-college Basketball Tournament being held at Gyanodaya College´s court. Xavier edged past Bridge Water 51-46. Tsering Gurung, Ronal Sherchan and Nitesh Pathak scored 11 points each for the winning side. In the girls´ section, Trinity registered a narrow margin 32-29 victory over Rato Bangala. Furba Yanzi netted 10 points for the winning team.
Teresa lifts title
KATHMANDU: Teresa Academy lifted the Second Valley-wide Inter School Senior Boys´ Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Teresa routed Wilson Academy 82-47 to lift the title. Ravi Khadka scored 10 points for the winning team. In the third place play-off, Opel edged past Innovative 39-37.
Four archers on lead
KATHMANDU: Four players took lead in the first day of the First Haldamba Loshar Archery Tournament on Wednesday. Norbu Gurung of the host Manang Marshyangdi Club, Kamal Chhyantal and Govinda Chhyantal from Nepal Chhyantal Association and Kamal Gurung from Bamboo Club gained two points each to take the lead in individual category. The tournament will feature individual as well as team contest. The winner of team events will bag the purse of Rs 50,000.
Madhyapur, Tusal win
KATHMANDU: Madhyapur Youth Association and Tusal Youth Club won their respective matches on Wednesday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division League. Madhyapur defeated Kumari Youth Club 1-0 in the match played at the Nepal Police Training Center, Maharajgunj. Yaman Rajbahak scored the lone goal of the match. Madhyapur has accumulated 21 points from 10 matches and remained in the second position. Kumari has five points from 10 matches.
Meanwhile, Tusal edged past Boys Sports Club 2-0 as Bimal Nepali struck twice. Tusal has 18 points from 10 matches. Tusal is in the fifth position. Boys Sports has seven points and the 12th position in the league table.
Sahara lifts title
NEPALGUNJ: Sahara Club of Lukhnow, India clinched the Shanta Devi Memorial Football Tournament on Wednesday held in Nepalgunj. In the final played at the Radhapur, Sahara beat Dhomboji Sports Club of Nepalgunj 4-2 in penalty shoot-out. The fate of winner was decided through tie-breaker following a goalless stalemate. With the win Sahara bagged the pursed of Rs 40,101 while Dhomboji remained satisfied with Rs 20,101.
