In the match played at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall on Tuesday, GoldenGate thrashed Nepal Army 103-54. GoldenGate dominated the first quarter and took it 45-9 but lost the second quarter 10-19. [break]GoldenGate then bounced back to take the third and fourth quarters 27-13 and 21-13 respectively.
Sushil Gurung was the hero for GoldenGate as he scored 45 points. Gurung had earlier scored 40 points against Far Western Region on Monday. GoldenGate will meet Premier in its last match on Sunday.
In another match, Premier Club routed Far Western 130-36. Premier took all the quarters 34-8, 24-6, 36-6 and 36-16. Binod Shrestha netted 18 points for the winning team. With two defeats from as many matches, Far Western Region´s hopes of qualifying for the semifinals have all but ended.
In the girl´s section, Prime Sports Club defeated Kaski 33-19. Prime took the first two quarters 12-6 and 15-3. Kaski fought back to take the third and fourth quarters 8-6 and 2-0 respectively, but it was too little, too late. With two defeats from two matches in the round robin league, Kaski is virtually out of the tournament. Kaski will meet GoldenGate on Wednesday.
Stage all set for Sports Award
KATHMANDU: The stage is all set for the Pulsar Sports Award 2068 to be held on Wednesday, the organizer Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) announced on Tuesday. The award ceremony will be held at the Nepal Academy Hall. NSJF will award sportspersons in eight different categories. NSJF had already announced the nominees for the male player of the year, female player of the year, coach of the year and youth player of the year.
The nominees for the popular player of the year to be decided through SMS voting were announced about a month ago. The para-athlete of the year, lifetime achievement award and special award won´t have any nominations. The winners of the male, female and popular categories will be awarded with a Pulsar motorbike, while the winners of other categories will bag a purse of Rs 30,000 each along with gift hampers.
Triton, VS into final
KATHMANDU: Triton and VS Niketan on Tuesday advanced into the final of the First UVS Men´s Open Basketball Tournament. In the semifinal played at Pepsi Cola, Triton defeated Galaxy 46-30 with 19 points from Ayush Singh. In another semifinal, VS Niketan beat United Academy 40-30 as Bijay Burja netted 16 points.
