Nepali athletes hit hard by new rule
KATHMANDU: Nepali athletes Tilak Ram Tharu and Chandrakala Thapa were left out of the men’s and women’s 200m respectively in the Athletics World Championship in Daegu, South Korea on Monday because of a new rule, says athletics coach of Nepal Police Club Leela Shrestha. Coach Shrestha told Republica that the two players had registered for the event but the new rule, which allows only players who have made it to the world championship through qualification to compete in multiple events, has barred the Nepali players from competing. “The players who are competing under quota system were not allowed to feature in more than one event. Our players have already participated in 100m sprints, so they couldn’t compete in 200m,” said Shrestha.
