SPORTS BRIEFS: Chhantyal Association wins title

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The ´A´ team of the Nepal Chhantyal Association won the team event´s title of the Second Open Gurung Bamboo Archery Championship. Chhantyal ´A´ has the total score of 164 points as Govinda Chhantyal scored 30 points and Deepak Chhantyal added 29 for the team.



Kamal Chhantyal scored 27 points while Narabhupal Chhantyal, Buddhi Chhantyal and Pratap Chhantyal added 26 points each for the winning team. [break]Myagdi Magar Samaj ´A´ remained on the second position with a total score of 143 points and Nepal Chhantyal Association ´B´ secured the third position with a total score of 132. The top three teams received Rs 21,000, Rs 16,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively.



Ladli Lions lifts cricket title

KATHMANDU: Ladli Lions on Saturday lifted the trophy of Shree Ridhi Sidhi Marwadi Champions League cricket tournament defeating Tip Top XI by eight wickets. In the final match played at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Tip Top won the toss and elected to bat first. Tip Top scored 100 runs in 20 overs losing all the wickets. Navin Jain grabbed three wickets while Saurav Lunawat and Paras Luniya took two wickets each. Ganesh Sarawagi was the highest scorer for Tip Top with 22 runs off 18 balls while Manish Chaudhary scored 17 runs.



Chasing the total of 101 runs, Lions reached the target in just 13.2 overs losing two wickets. Hitesh Dalmiya scored quickfire 42 runs off 26 balls while Manoj Sood was not out in 24 runs off 12 balls. Dinesh Agrawal grabbed two wickets. With the win, Lions bagged a purse of Rs 100,000 and Tip Top had to satisfy for Rs 50,000. Semifinalist SG Challengers and Naxal Challengers received Rs 5,100 each.



Sandeep Bhatera of Ladli Lions was adjudged the best batsman while Purnendu Ghosh of Dare Devils received best bowler award. For the brilliant innings in the tournament, Manoj Sood of Ladli Lions was declared man-of-the-series. Ebisu Real Hitters received the fair play award and received Rs 10,000 from the organizers. Prashanna Shakya hit the most sixes in the tournament and bagged Rs 1,100.


Police leads volleyball tournament


KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) and defending champion Gyanu Baba Higher Secondary School on Saturday registered wins in the Seventh Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament. NPC overcame Armed Police Force (APF) 25-20, 25-15, 25-14 while Gyanu Baba beat New Diamond Academy 25-23, 25-12, 25-15. NPC leads the points table with 21 points while Gyanu Baba has 20 points with a game in hand than NPC. Tops Academy of Pokhara defeated Chandeshori Youth Club from Ramwchhap 25-5, 25-12, 25-12.



Gyanodaya in final


KATHMANDU: Gyanodaya School on Saturday fixed the final spot in girls´ category in the Third Teresa Academy Inter School Basketball Tournament. Gyanodaya registered three wins in a day and topped the round robin league. Gyanodaya beat Deneb 25-5, Saipal 34-5 and Midland 50-25. In other matches of the girls´ section, Teresa overcame Saipal 30-15 and Deneb defeated Saipal 7-4. In the junior boys´ section, Odyssey registered twin wins and a loss. Odyssey beat Ideal English School 36-22 and Gyan Niketan 26-21. Green Field defeated Odyssey 32-29.


Shrestha elected unopposed


KATHMANDU: General Secretary of Nepal Olympic Committee, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, on Saturday has been unanimously elected as the president of Nepal Ski Association. Sambhu Lama and Raj Babu Shrestha have been elected as the vice presidents. Pasang Sherpa and Bijay Shrestha are the general secretary and secretary respectively. The first board meeting of the association has nominated Raja Shakya and Ishori Poudel as its vice presidents.



Anish Nepali wins title


KATHMANDU: Anish Bahadur Nepali of Paropakar won the title of the Third OCCED Inter Orphanage U-14 Chess Championship. He accumulated five points from five matches as he beat Raja Rana and Yaham Tamang of Sunrise on Saturday. He received Rs 3,000 undefeated in the tournament. Chham Bahadur Gurung of Sunrise and Susan Bahadur Nepali of Paropakar finished second and third respectively.
