SPORTS BRIEFS: Chhantyal wins title

KATHMANDU, Jan  5: Govinda Chhantyal of Nepal Chhantyal Association won the title of the individual event in the Second Open Gurung Bamboo Archery Championship on Thursday.



Chhantyal added two points on Thursday to take his points tally to 13 and clinched the title. Norbu Gurung of Manang Marshyangdi Archery Club accumulated five points on Thursday and finished the championship on the second position with a total of 10 points. [break]



Tham Gurung of the host Gurung Bamboo Archery finished third with total eight points. Team event will begin on Friday.



Tip Top XI reaches final


KATHMANDU: Tip Top XI defeated SG Challengers by 11 runs on Thursday to reach the final of the Ridhi Sidhi Marwadi T20 Cricket Tournament. Challengers won the toss at the TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur and elected to field first. Tip Top put up 155 runs losing three wickets in the 20 overs as Amit Goenka scored unbeaten 55 runs of 45 balls. Manish Chaudhary scored 37 runs.



In reply, Challengers reached to close but too far of the target and lost the match by 11 runs. Yogesh Sawarthia scored 52 runs of 51 balls before retiring from the game. Arshad Iman scored 49 runs but Tip Top restricted Challengers at 114/5 in 20 overs. Manish Chaudhary and Sunil Gaggar took two wickets each for Tip Top.


Teresa, AIA win basketball matches


KATHMANDU: Host Teresa and Awareness International Academy (AIA) won their respective matches of the junior boys´ section in the opening day of the Third Teresa Academy Inter School Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Teresa defeated Lyceum School 41-30 as Manoj Kumar Singh scored 18 points. Likewise, AIA thrashed Deneb 32-18 after Subas Sen scored 13 points.



Altogether eight teams are participating in the junior boys´ section of the tournament while five teams are competing in the senior girls´ section.


Twin wins for APF

KATHMANDU: Armed Police Force (APF) registered twin wins in the Seventh Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women´s Double League Volleyball Tournament Thursday. In the match played at the court of New Buspark, APF defeated Angel´s Heart 25-16, 25-11, 25-5, and Chandeshwari Youth Club, Ramechhap 25-9, 25-8, 25-3. In another match New Diamond Academy registered 25-16, 25-10, 13-25, 25-19.



Defending champion Gyanu Baba leads the points table with 16 points and Nepal Police follows them with 15 points. Angel´s Heart is in the third position with 13 points. New Diamond and APF have a game in hand in concluding the first league.
