Some prominent NC faces who lost the CWC election

KATHMANDU, March 14: Some prominent figures have faced a defeat in the 13th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. Some former ministers, speaker and former Central Working Committee (CWC) members who had filed their candidacies for the post of CWC members in the election could not secure their berths in the CWC of the Nepali Congress.

With the vote counting for the 25 CWC members under the open category coming to an end on Monday afternoon, former speaker of the Legislature-Parliament Taranath Ranabhat, former ministers Chiranjibi Wagle, Laxman Ghimire, former Home Minister Govinda Raj Joshi, former minister Purna Kumar Sherma have lost the elections.


Similarly, Nepali Congress youth leader and lawmaker Udaya Shumsher Rana, Ram Hari Khatiwada, Laxmi Upadhyaya alias 'Dina', former lawmakers including Manamohan Bhattarai, Binayadhwaj Chanda lost the elections. Likewise, former vice chairman of the National Planning Commission Prof. Govinda Pokharel also could not win the election.

As many as 90 leaders were in the election fray under the open category. Of them, Shekhar Koirala has won the election with the highest votes while Minedra Rijal secured his berth in the last 25th position.

Shekhar Koirala got highest 1,848 votes followed by Khum Bahadur Khadka with 1,846 votes. Similarly Prakashman Singh became third with 1,795 votes while Minendra Rijal got 1,420 votes. It took six days for the election committe to finish counting votes under the open category. The vote counting for the CC members under the provincial category is still underway.
