Six convicted of forging documents to sell land

BIRGUNJ, March 30: The District Court of Parsa on Tuesday handed down jail sentences to six people for their involvement in selling off other people's land without their consent and forging documents.

Out of the six accused, two have been sent to judicial custody while the remaining four were asked to either pay bail amounts ranging from Rs 1 million to Rs 5 million for their release of serve their time in jail, informed Thakur Dhakal, a staffer at the district court."None of them could submit the bail amount. They are currently serving their sentence in a prison in Birgunj," according to DSP Hobendra Bogati of the District Police Office (DPO).

Indrawati Kumari of Beumanapa-8 was accused of making an unauthorized sale of 17.86 square meters of land located at Maisthan in Birgunj Municipality to Sachendra Maharjan of Lalitpur Sub-municipality-21. Maharjan paid Rs 8 million for the land.

The court has ordered a bail amount of Rs 5 million for her release, while sending her husband, Sandip Gupta, and another accused, Rajesh Gupta, to judicial custody.

Likewise, the court set Rs 2.5 million bail for Kusu Sudan Singh, branch manager of Birgunj chapter of Prime Commercial Bank. The other accused in the case, Nasu Murari Timilsina and Badri Jha have been asked to furnish bail amounts of Rs 1.5 million and Rs 1 million, respectively.
