A meeting of the Council Of Ministers on Wednesday decided to appoint Shiwakoti and Shrestha as the deputy governors of the central bank nearly two months after the posts became vacant.
The posts were vacant after the then deputy governors Gopal Prasad Kafle and Maha Prasad Adhikari retired on December 25 last year completing their five-year tenures.
The government had delayed the appointment owing to the dispute over the names of the four candidates recommended by the NRB Governor Chiranjibi Nepal to Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Poudel.

Chintamani Shiwakoti
Sources say that while NRB Governor Nepal, who was appointed by the Nepali Congress-led government, wanted at least one of his deputies to be someone close to him, the incumbent government was pressing him to forward the names of at least two candidates favored by the UML.
The cabinet decided to chose Shrestha and Shiwakoti leaving behind other two candidates— Trilochan Pangeni and Shivanath Pandey—that were recommend last week.
Shivaraj Shrestha
The government appointed Shrestha as the senior deputy governor and Shiwakoti as the junior in the central bank that frames monetary policy as well as is mandated to license, supervise and monitor the banks and financial institutions of the country.
Shrestha, fifth in seniority among the 15 NRB executive directors, was heading the Human Resources Management Department of the NRB.
Shiwakoti, who joined the central bank in 1987, was recently promoted to the executive director. He was heading the Currency Management Department of the central bank.
