KATHMANDU, Feb 16: Sarbendra Khanal, chairperson of Samunnat Party Nepal, has urged the government to immediately make public the report of the Gen-Z investigation being conducted by a committee led by former Special Court Chair Gauri Bahadur Karki.
Khanal accused the government of deliberately extending the tenure of the high-level probe commission formed to examine the legitimacy of the Gen-Z movement and recommend legal action against those responsible. According to him, the extension appears aimed at delaying — if not suppressing — the report’s findings.
Speaking to Republica, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khanal warned that failure to submit the report on time could undermine the very foundation of the Gen-Z movement.

“What were the objectives of the Gen-Z movement? What has it achieved? Was it merely about demanding elections? Or about advancing the 2084 polls to 2082?” Khanal asked. “The government has failed to grasp that the movement was not just about holding elections.”
He further alleged that individuals involved in the incidents of September 8 and 9 are currently active in the electoral race. “Those who suppressed the Gen-Z movement and those involved in acts of destruction are now contesting elections. If they are found guilty in the commission’s report, it appears the government is trying to shield them. The commission risks becoming complicit,” he claimed.
Khanal called on the commission to immediately submit its report and ensure its public release, demanding action against any candidates found guilty. “Otherwise, the election itself loses its meaning,” he said.
He also proposed forming an all-party government instead of proceeding with elections. According to Khanal, individuals allegedly linked to the September incidents could enter the next government and Parliament, making the implementation of the commission’s recommendations unlikely.
“Those facing allegations may soon sit in Parliament. Will they recommend action against themselves?” he questioned.
Khanal is contesting the election from Bara Constituency-4 representing Samunnat Party Nepal. He asserted that public trust in his party is steadily growing, citing its commitment to integrity, discipline, and a clear political vision.
