“Thank god I am ok, anything could happen. They were throwing stones at our bus,” Shrestha said. “After we got off, they smashed the bus and burnt it.”

The students had set fire on the bus belonging to Delhi Public School early in the morning near Seuti bridge on Itahari-Dharan road section in Sunsari district. Similarly, they vandalized anther school bus of the same school. According to the police a dozen of school children were injured.
“We had just crossed the Seuti bridge when a man stopped the bus, poured petrol on it and got ready to burn it. We all came out of the bus screaming and running and gathered at the other side of the bridge,” narrated Ritika Shrestha, 11th grader at the school.
She added that the horrified students who sat quietly in the jungle for an were overjoyed to see police who arrived an hour later. “We were terrified and had lost all hopes. But after seeing the police we heaved a sigh of relief,” Ritika said.

The union members who attacked the bus had already left by the time the police reached the spot.
Distirct in-charge of the students´ union Prahlad Raut said the school was targeted for high fees and the school curriculum did not comply with the national curriculum. He warned of more action against if the school did not change the fee structure and the curriculum.
The union has been pressuring plus two level educational institutions to withdraw their ´English names´ and bring uniformity in fee structure.
