KATHMANDU, Sep 18: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday stayed procedures initiated by Tribhuvan University (TU) to appoint professors and assistant professors.

A single bench of Justice Girish Chandra Lal ordered the oldest university of the county to stop the entire process regarding new appointments until the court makes a final ruling on the issue. [break]

Advocates Sunil Ranjan Singh and Dipendra Jha on Monday had filed a petition at the SC urging the court to nullify the vacancies for the posts of professors and assistant professors announced by TU.

They have said that the TU advertisement calls for applications under open competition without specifying reservation quotas, which is against the Interim Constitution and the Civil Service Act, 2049.

The petitioners have demanded re-advertisement of the posts along with reservation quotas. TU on Monday published a vacancy announcement under open competition for the posts of 49 professors and 57 assistant professors.
