Of these, 13 trucks were taken under control on Friday night and nine on Saturday night. Most of these trucks were carrying readymade garments, shoes, electronic goods and apples.
The customs office began investigation into the matter from Sunday.
“So far, we have found that businessmen had evaded Rs 3.5 million in taxes through under-invoicing and fabricating information on self-declaration forms,” Janmajay Regmi, director general of the Revenue Investigation Department, said. “We also found that quantity of imported goods exceeded the quantity mentioned in the letter of credit. Appropriate fine has been slapped for this fraudulent practice.”
The customs office is yet to conduct investigation on two cargo trucks. “We will wrap up the investigation on Tuesday,” Regmi said.
