KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The situation of rapid malnutrition has become a major problem in the country as it is the main cause of death of children under five years.

As per the latest population health survey, some 430,000 children under five years of age have been found affected with any type of malnutrition. Of them, 290,000 children are found suffering from rapid malnutrition.

According to the World Health Organization, number of children suffering from rapid malnutrition is found increasing in Nepal for lack of access to health services, balanced and complete diet as well as nutrient-rich food.

The condition of underweight and stunted growth as per the children's age is known as rapid malnutrition.

A total of 40 INGOs and NGOs have been jointly running 'Generation Nutrition' Campaign in Nepal at the initiative of ACF organization from today to end such situation.

The government has prepared and implemented the multi-sector nutrition plan for ending malnutrition. Eight different ministries including the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Agriculture Development have been implementing this plan. The government has allocated Rs 100 million in the current fiscal year for the implementation of this plan. RSS
