KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Acting Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has said that the Election Code of Conduct will be enforced soon in view of the election scheduled for March 5.
Stating that the code of conduct is essential to ensure a fair, free and fear-free election environment, he said it would be binding on all stakeholders to keep them within the limits of election rules.

Bhandari clarified that the code of conduct for this election will be implemented more strictly than in previous elections. According to him, the EC is currently collecting suggestions from various stakeholders regarding the code. After reviewing the suggestions, the EC is expected to make a decision within a day or two on the date from which the code will come into effect.
He also stressed the need to identify potential challenges that could arise during the election and focus on addressing them. In particular, he said the EC would identify areas where conducting a free and fair election could be difficult and make preparations accordingly.
Bhandari said the code of conduct would be effectively enforced to control misinformation, disinformation, and misleading statements during the election period. The EC has reiterated its commitment to strictly enforce the code of conduct to maintain the credibility of the election.
