Over 75 private schools were closed after PABSEU announced the strike demanding pay hike and other benefits including permanent status to teachers.[break]
According to PABSEU district secretary Santosh Koirala, they shut down all the private schools in Dharan as the Private and Boarding Schools´ Organization (PABSON) and the Nepal Private and Boarding Schools´ Organization (NPABSON) have turned a deaf ear to their 22-point demand forwarded four months ago.
“Four months have elapsed since we forwarded our demands to PABSON and NPABSON, but they have turned a deaf ear. So, we were forced to announce closure of schools,” Koirala said. “We may soon have to impose district-wide shutdown of schools if our demands are not met immediately,” he added.
According to Nara Bahadur Thapa, district vice-chairman of PABSON, a meeting was held to discuss the demands a few months ago. “PABSEU had agreed to work out a solution in the next meeting but it abruptly announced the closure,” said Thapa.
