Emerging from the meeting held at the presidential residence in Shital Niwas Baluwatar, Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar said, “The discussion was held on all the issues. The president has given us a time-frame of November 22 to forge consensus.” [break]
According to him, the leaders do not have any disagreement on picking the new prime minister from among the major political parties but they are yet to decide who should lead the consensus government. PM Baburam Bhattarai was also present in the meeting.
With the president specifying the deadline for consensus, the major political parties have decided to hold a meeting on fresh elections, formation of a consensus government and unveiling of new budget, at 3 pm later today.
Only a day earlier, the president had cautioned that he would have to take up an active role to diffuse the long standing crisis in the country should the leaders fail to reach understanding on the outstanding issues by November 22.
Exiting from the meeting, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal both expressed their views that all the issues should be resolved based on a common understanding among the parties.
The ruling UCPN (Maoist)´s Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and PM Bhattarai, however, left the meeting venue without making any comment.
