MAHOTTARI, Oct 23: With the completion of the Tihar festival, preparation for the biggest festival of Madhesh has kicked off in the district.
A culture expert Dhrub Ray informed that preparation for the Chhath festival began with the cleaning of rivers, ponds, streams and brooks at Jaleshwor Municipality-5.
Gai Puja, Goru Puja and Govardhan Puja today
During the Chhath festival, Sun God and Chhathi Mata are worshipped from the ponds and streams of Mithila region. For the convenience of people's mobility and access to streams, road defects are being repaired, according to Bijay Kumar Singh, Chairperson of Jaleshwor municipality-8.
Mayor of Jaleshwor Municipality, Suresh Sah Sonar, informed that the people were installing street lights, collecting puja materials, decorative items like festoons and marquees.
Keshav Jha is the coordinator of Chhath puja committee here. Makeshift temples and shrines are made of bamboo at the Pathak Pokhari, a pond, Jaleshwor Municipality- 8.
The Barun Sarobar is another water spot where the devotees throng to celebrate the Chhath festival. Similarly, the rivers in Matihani, Gaushala, Aurahi, Alawa and Loharpatti see sizable people during the Chhath celebration.
