KATHMANDU, July 4: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has said the government´s policies and programs for the fiscal year 2011/12 introduced on Sunday lack programs to make economy vibrant.

“Failure to specify the priority sectors of economy is the major weakness on the part of the government,” the apex organization of Nepali business people said in a statement on Monday. [break]

FNCCI has also criticized the government for introducing three-pillar policy with the involvement of government, private sector and cooperatives, stating that the move overlooks suggestions of the private sector to identify market-oriented, open and liberal policy as the foundation of economic policy.

It, however, welcomed the provision of putting private sector in high priority in infrastructure development and hydropower sector. FNCCI has hailed the announcement to prioritize the construction of mega infrastructure projects like Mid-hills Highway, Kathmandu-Tarai fast track, mid-hill electricity transmission line, reservoir type hydropower projects, Nijgadh International Airport and upgrading of Bhairawa, Pokhara, and Janakpur airports into regional ones.

FNCCI has also welcomed the announcement to formulate a master plan for hydropower development, decision to establish hydropower bank, promote Nepali exports and set up Revenue Board.
