Speaking at the general convention of Tanahun and Gorkha Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Friday, Bhattarai said he had bet his political career for the sake of the country on BIPPA agreement. He said, "I am sure majority of people are happy with the BIPPA agreement and I take this as an achievement."[break]
He said unless the private sector has confidence, there is no point in increasing the investment. "The government is planning to create employment within the country by bringing in more foreign and local investments," he clarified the reason for declaring 2012 -13 as the investment year.
He stressed on the need to prioritize hydropower and agricultural. "It´s important to attract investment in hydropower sector to resolve the ongoing energy crisis," PM Bhattarai said, adding that he is planning to utilize the amount which freezes at the end of the fiscal year in hydropower sector.
Speaking at the 13th general convention of Gorkha Chambers of Commerce and Industry, acting president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar said agreements like BIPPA are necessary with neighboring China as well.
He said, "The government led by Dr. Bhattarai is working to promote entrepreneurship." He asked BFIs to reduce the lending rate as banks have more than enough liquidity.
Former president of FNCCI Ananda Raj Mulmi said the private sector is ready to jointly work with the government. "Economic transformation is a must for political and social change and political stability is required for economic change," he said.
Lifeline to Gorakhkali Rubber
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai has declared to disburse Rs 50 million to Gorakhkali Rubber Industry. He asked the management and the employees to work hand in hand for the smooth operation of the country´s only rubber industry. "The industry should be saved from falling sick by resolving all problems," he said.
