“Instead of taking concrete initiatives to form a consensus government, the prime minister is insisting meaninglessly on transforming the current government as a consensus government,” said the nine-point proposal endorsed by UML standing committee meeting on Friday.
The UML has come down heavily on the prime minister allegedly for taking “some serious, controversial and unreasonable decisions just to prolong the tenure of the government”.
The party has accused the government of violating the ´military act´ and the regulations on transforming the Nepal Army (NA) into an inclusive organization.
It has also lambasted the government for rampant unlawful transfers, increasing interference in bureaucracy and the act of ministers threatening bureaucrats just because the latter did not work as per their “unlawful” instructions. “The increasing trend of bribery and arbitrary transfers has made a mockery of democracy in the recent days,” the party has said.
“Constitution writing back to square one”
The UML also held the government and the ruling UCPN (Maoist) party responsible for the delay in concluding the twin tasks of concluding the peace process and constitution writing. It has said the way the Maoist leaders are backtracking from the previous agreements reached in the dispute resolution subcommittee under the Constitutional Committee (CC) has brought the constitution writing process in the Constituent Assembly (CA) back to square one. “Therefore it is likely that the CA may yet again miss the May 28 deadline and the country may be plunge into a serious constitutional as well as political crisis,” said the UML.
