DANG, June 3: UCPN (Maoist) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara accused leaders of the newly-formed CPN-Maoist of splitting the party with intent of continuing armed struggle.

Speaking at a press conference organized by Revolutionary Journalists Association in Gorahi on Tuesday morning, he said that the main reason behind the party split was the leaders´ eagerness to carry on armed struggle in the name of revolution.[break]

“We proposed to them to wage a ideological battle but they insisted on armed struggle and split the party, Mahara argued.

Saying that armed struggle is not the only means of revolution, he claimed that his party has not deviated from revolutionary ideology.

On the occasion, Mahara stressed on the need of resolving the issues surrounding constitution-making, rather than discussing the issue of government formation.

“The need of the hour is not the government formation but debate on new constitution. Once the issue of constitution is resolved, the issue of government formation would automatically be finalized,” Mahara opined.
