The maneuver from Paudel panel comes just ahead of the election for NC parliamentary party leader, which has been scheduled for April 6.The position of the parliamentary party leader has remained vacant since the demise of the then PP leader Sushil Koirala on February 9.
Newly-elected party President Deuba and Paudel, who was defeated as a candidate for party president in the recently held general convention of the NC, are vying for the post of PP leader.
Koirala's demise and Deuba's victory in the election for party president has eroded Paudel panel's influence within its parliamentary party.
Paudel called a meeting of leaders loyal to him at his residence at Boharatar on Monday and urged them to jointly raise the issue of one-leader-one-position policy in the NC.
"Our party has adopted such policy time to time. Subarna Samher led the party while BP became prime minister; similarly, Girija Prasad Koirala became prime minister when Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was party president," a leader quoted Paudel as saying during the meeting.
"Paudel told us that he will hold talks with Deuba over one-leader-one-position policy, among other issues," said leader Dhan Raj Gurung.
According to party leader Nabindra Raj Joshi, the meeting also concluded that the major decisions of the party should be taken based on consensus among the top leaders. "The meeting decided to draw the attention of party president to govern the party in line with party rules and procedures, and convene the election for PP leader only after amending parliamentary party statute," said Joshi.
The NC parliamentary party statute states development regions even after the country transforming to seven provinces after the promulgation of the new constitution.
Paudel faction leaders had demanded to delay the PP election, but the party's election committee declared the election date despite their opposition.
