Pathibhara cable car dispute: Court extends custody of 15 arrestees

Police have launched a further investigation into 15 individuals from the 'No Cable Car' group, who were arrested on Saturday in Phungling, after securing a seven-day custody extension from the Taplejung District Court.

TAPLEJUNG, Feb 24: Police have launched a further investigation into 15 individuals from the 'No Cable Car' group, who were arrested on Saturday in Phungling, after securing a seven-day custody extension from the Taplejung District Court.


Taplejung District Police Office Inspector and Information Officer Bibek Basnet said they are investigating the detainees for rioting and criminal disturbance. He added that the investigation follows Section 63 of the National Penal (Code) Act 2017, which prohibits rioting, and Section 285, which prohibits criminal disturbance.

According to the police, the arrested individuals include 48-year-old Mitra Lingden, a permanent resident of Hilihang Rural Municipality-6 in Panchthar, who currently lives in Arjundhara Municipality-11, Jhapa. They also arrested 23-year-old Bibek Limbu from Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-3, Sunsari, and 22-year-old Eman Rai from Phidim Municipality-11, Panchthar. Additionally, they took 30-year-old Nirmala Baral (Darnal) into custody, who is originally from Athrai Rural Municipality-7, Tehrathum, but now resides in Arjundhara Municipality-11, Jhapa. The police also detained 45-year-old Nabin Pomo from Athrai Tribeni Rural Municipality-1, Taplejung.


Similarly, the police detained 58-year-old Tularam Tamang, a permanent resident of Gramthan Rural Municipality-6, Morang, who currently lives in Sundar Haraicha Municipality-10. They also arrested 19-year-old Juran Rai from Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-3, Sunsari, and 39-year-old Hari Limbu from Urlabari Municipality-1, Morang. Additionally, they took 40-year-old Sunita Kerung into custody who is originally from Phalelung Rural Municipality-8, Panchthar, but now resides in Phidim Municipality-1. The police also arrested 32-year-old Birkha Bahadur Tamang, known as Arjun, from Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-2, Sunsari.


The police detained 32-year-old Anup Subba from Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-20, Sunsari, and 19-year-old Bishesh Subba from Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-10. They also arrested 51-year-old Yogendra Lawati, a permanent resident of Miklajung Rural Municipality-5, Panchthar, who currently lives in Ilam Municipality-7. Additionally, they took 21-year-old Niha Chemjong from Arjundhara Municipality-4, Jhapa, and 20-year-old Iksha Limbu, a permanent resident of Shivasatakshi Municipality-2, Jhapa, who now resides in Birtamod Municipality-2, into custody for further investigation.
