‘Parties to agree on six-province model’

CHITWAN, June 7: Nepali Congress Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel has said that the parties were holding discussions on the modality of carving out six provinces.

He further stated the name of the provinces would be determined by the concerned provincial assembly while a Federal Commission would demarcate the border of the provinces.


Speaking at a press meet organized by the Nepal Press Union, Chitwan chapter here today, NC leader added that the parties were close to an agreement on the six-province model. Referring to the four-party meeting held in the capital earlier this morning, leader Poudel urged the leaders to forge a consensus rather than prolonging the debate any further.

Leader Poudel said that the parties were reiterating for national consensus government to be united only but not to change the leadership of the government as the new constitution and reconstruction were the prime agenda of the hour.

Vice-president Poudel added that discussions would be made on five major positions only after the new constitution. He further pointed out the need of forming a powerful authority for the reconstruction of the quake affected areas. He stressed on the unity of people, government and all political parties for making appropriate settlement in the quake affected areas. RSS
