According to NC parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel the decision was accordance to his party’s earlier decision.
NC parliamentary party meeting on Thursday decided to protest the government’s plan to announce the budget prior to the May 28, the deadline for promulgating the new constitution.
“We will obstruct the budget session. We have also submitted memoranda to the prime minister and the Constituent Assembly Speaker over the issue,” Paudel informed reporters after the meeting.
The memorandum submitted by the NC accuses the government of sidelining the peace process and constitution-writing and trying to distract the Constituent Assembly (CA) and the nation with the new budget.
Paudel also informed that the nature of the protest will be decided by a meeting of the 13 parties scheduled for Monday at the NC parliamentary party office.
“There will be no parliament session tomorrow,” Biswendra Paswan, a CA lawmaker, informed reporters.
Meanwhile, a tripartite meeting of the big three parties-UCPN (Maoist), NC and CPN UML—is underway at the CA. The meeting was scheduled under the initiatives of CA chairman Subas Nembang.
