KATHMANDU, May 24: OPPO has been granted a patent for its new in-display fingerprint scanner, a statement issued by the smartphone maker stated.

"The State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) provided the patent. Based on the images that surfaced with the patent filing, it would take up a fairly large space above the bottom bezel of the smartphone," the statement reads.
The newly developed technology is different to what Synaptics developed -- a sensor emitting light underneath an OLED panel and then reading the fingerprint crests, according to the company.
