KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Ailing CPN-UML leader KP Sharma Oli, who was receiving treatment at Norvic International Hospital in Thapathali, was airlifted to New Delhi, India, in an air ambulance for further treatment on Sunday.

Party members working closely with Oli said the leader was referred to the Haryana-based Medanta Medicity Hospital near New Delhi. He is accompanied by his wife Radhika and his aides. He was taken to India even though his aides and doctors involved in his treatment said that his health condition was improving.[break]

Former Deputy Prime Minister Oli’s personal assistant Ramesh Acharya said they decided to take him to Delhi “only as an extra-precaution”.

On Friday, the influential UML leader was admitted to the Norvic Hospital after he complained of chest infection. The Norvic Hospital briefed on Saturday that Oli had no fever throughout the day and his overall condition had been stable.

According to the hospital, Oli still has problems in both of his lungs due to pneumonia and that full recovery might take a couple of days.

Oli fell ill during his recent visit to the US and was admitted to a New York-based hospital. He arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The UML leader had undergone kidney transplant a few years ago and has been regularly visiting Apollo Hospital in New Delhi for medication.
