Number of taxpayers surpasses seven million in Nepal

The majority of taxpayers hold personal Permanent Account Numbers (PAN), largely due to mandatory requirements for salary transactions. In the last three months alone, 142,602 individuals obtained PANs.

KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has reported that the number of registered taxpayers in Nepal has exceeded 7 million. As of the first six months of the current fiscal year 2024/25, a total of 7,036,683 taxpayers have been registered with the department.


The majority of taxpayers hold personal Permanent Account Numbers (PAN), largely due to mandatory requirements for salary transactions. In the last three months alone, 142,602 individuals obtained PANs.

The number of business PAN holders has reached 193,724, with 28,086 new registrations in the same period. Similarly, 338,316 taxpayers are registered under Value Added Tax (VAT), with 5,445 new additions in the last three months. Additionally, 121,682 taxpayers hold excise duty licenses, with 1,871 new registrations during the six-month period.


The number of permanent account taxpayers has reached 34,638, with 573 new registrants in the past three months.
