KATHMANDU, Jan 30: Former Education minister and leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Sumana Shrestha, said that Ashika Tamang embodies the anger of the common people.
On Thursday, Shrestha visited Tamang at the Jagati Police Station in Bhaktapur, where she said, “Her behavior may be chaotic, and though I disagree with it, I see that it reflects the anger of the common people.”
Ex-minister Sumana Shrestha questions PM Oli’s competence
She questioned the ongoing investigation into Tamang’s alleged indecent behavior, stating, “What investigation is still pending? Hasn't the video and all related reports already been posted? Who is filing these complaints across various districts, and will action be taken as swiftly in other cases?”
Shrestha further accused the Home Minister of tacitly supporting Tamang’s suffering. “Home Minister, your silence is clear support,” she said, “Otherwise, such atrocities by the police wouldn’t have occurred.”
Lawmaker Shrestha also called for Tamang’s release.
Tamang, arrested on January 15 for alleged indecent behavior, is currently held at Jagati Police Station. Police have confirmed she will remain in police custody until Friday.
