NOC honors ‘forgotten’ heroes

KATHMANDU, March 8: The Women and Sports Commission of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) on Tuesday felicitated two women sports personalities with cash prize of Rs 25,000 each on the occasion of the 106th International Women's Day.

Former national table tennis champion Kamala Rana and National Sports Council member Shanti Singh were felicitated during the function held at the office of the NOC at Satdobato, Lalitpur.NOC president Jeevan Ram Shrestha handed over the letter of appreciation to Rana and Singh.

Meanwhile, three-time national champion Rana returned the amount to the commission saying that the amount should be used for the benefit of women players.

"I am delighted for remembering me. The number of women players should be increased in sports and I will lend my support for this," said 88-year-old Rana.

Similarly, former kabbadi head coach Singh said that such felicitation could be inspiration for players. "I believe that the organization will keep remembering women players, coaches and sports personalities who have been forgotten," said Singh.
