The three-party meeting scheduled for Sunday, which was expected to resolve the dispute over appointment of a new executive director at the hospital, has not been held. Sources said the meeting was postponed as Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala is out of the capital.[break]
An attempt of a team of doctors and hospital staffers who are in Kathmandu to resolve the problem has also failed to yield results. The team has already met leaders of the big three political parties.
“Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara has assured us that the government would resolve our problem after holding the three-party meeting,” Chairman of the hospital management committee Dr Rameshore Man Shrestha said.
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has also said that his party would work toward resolving the dispute over at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital (BPKMCH).
Services at BP Koirala Cancer Hospital, Bharatpur have been halted since April 28 following a dispute over the appointment of Dr Laxmi Narayan Singh as the new executive director.
Health workers have padlocked the hospital after Dr Singh was appointed to the post.
Meanwhile, former presidents of the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) on Sunday urged the government to take immediate action to resolve the dispute.
