KATHMANDU, May 28 : Police have arrested six individuals on charges of defrauding people by promising lucrative jobs abroad and sending them to various countries.
According to police, those arrested include 45-year-old Ram Bahadur Ale Magar of Rautamai Rural Municipality–4, Udayapur; 32-year-old Ashish Karki of Lahan Municipality–6, Siraha; 79-year-old Lok Bahadur Shrestha of Tokha Municipality–4; 41-year-old Tulasa Pun Magar of Tokha Municipality–3; 48-year-old Krishna Prasad Pokharel of Tansen Municipality–7, Palpa; and 29-year-old Prabin Shrestha of Chandragiri Municipality–11, Kathmandu.

Police said Ram Bahadur allegedly collected Rs 3.958 million from four victims promising jobs in Canada, while Ashish took Rs 1.3 million from three victims for jobs in New Zealand. Similarly, Lok Bahadur allegedly took Rs 1.9 million for UK jobs, Tulasa Rs 1 million for the United States, Krishna Prasad Rs 1 million for the UAE, and Prabin Rs 600,000 for jobs in Serbia, after which they reportedly went out of contact.
Based on complaints from victims, the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, made the arrests on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from different locations across Kathmandu.
Authorities have sent Ram Bahadur and Ashish to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation, while the remaining four have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Tahachal.
